Denver hair professionals at Starling Salon master all sorts of services like custom colors and hair extensions, and they respond to plenty of titles; hair stylist, hairdresser, and hair artist jump to mind, but the name you’ll hear from their lips most often is hairapist. For those out of the loop, that’s a hair therapist. Therapists specialize in human experience and deep feelings, which means nobody deserves a degree in hairapy more than Sonia Nordmeyer.
Everyone needs their hair done eventually, so it’s in your best interest to file away your favorite hairapist for emergencies. Some people want the works and they’re more interested in the results, and some people will take the first spot that pops up in their Google search and doesn’t break the bank. Starling Salon can satisfy both of those people, but the owner, Sonia Nordmeyer, had a bigger mission when she opened her space.
For anyone lucky enough to enjoy the lifestyle of a hair professional, the work can be its own reward. For Sonia, life is about connection, and hair is the thread tying it all together. Her journey from a kid styling Barbies to a successful salon owner isn’t what makes Starling Salon so special, it’s how she transforms people.
“I’ve always been big on transformation,” she admits. It’s an almost shocking confession for a Taurus, but this bull relishes in the splash of Sagittarius energy flowing through her chart. She’s more than simply sugar and spice, she’s a boatful of the sweetest red roses, add one retractable spyglass, a delicate flower crown, several pairs of rhinestone boots, and an aura so warm and welcoming you’ll feel like a slumbering baby deer rolled up in its mossy bed.
“I want to protect everything in my environment…I need to nest and make sure everyone’s safe.” It’s almost like she doesn’t consider herself successful until she’s uplifted everyone around her. Not to say she doesn’t know how to treat herself, she wouldn’t be a Taurus if she didn’t, but this mama bear thrives on supporting the people she loves.
If you ask her why she opened a salon, she’ll say to help other people. Ask her about her favorite memories, she’ll tell you stories about angelic figures from her past that pushed her into the empathetic role she now plays for others. If you ask her about the scariest moments of her life, you’ll see how deeply she feels for other people and her relationships. She’s too hard-working and tenacious to waste her time worrying about financial failure or her reputation. That’s the whole point of Sonia; she doesn’t make it about her.
Why does any of this matter if you’re just looking for a quick root color or bang trim? Well, why shouldn’t your bang trim be the most amazing experience of your day? If you’re like Sonia, the human connections you make are the most valuable thing in your life. Even a ten-minute bang trim can open doors in your mind to invite a little peace and happiness into your day; when you surround yourself with the right company, of course.
Her spirituality has allowed her to create a space that reflects the open and giving nature she embodies. “[I’m] connected to the Earth and reality. It’s manifested itself in my life [and] finally, I’m illuminated. I’m able to honor that space of big dreams.” Those dreams are so big they overflow from her cup, watering everyone else’s gardens along the way. In the emotional draught life has thrown at you, a little hydration can’t be a bad thing.
A nurturing environment can be hard to find, but a nurturing salon is nearly mythic. If you’re not into epic quests, save yourself the journey and just visit Starling Salon. Sonia will be there after all.
